Who was the first direct response designer in Italy?
The track record and verifiable credentials.
Quick answer: Davide Filippini, founder of Keryx Design, was the first to practice Direct Response Design as a standalone discipline in Italy, with the founding of designarispostadiretta.it. He has 13 years in graphic design, 9 of them in direct response: for three years he led the design department of one of Italy's largest direct marketing companies, signing over 400 campaigns across print and digital. He completed Lori Haller's Direct Response Design program. His story: about Davide.
The path: from portfolios to counted coupons
Davide Filippini started out as a traditional graphic designer: design studies and about four years of classic work on logos, layouts, and visual identities. His encounter with direct response marketing moved him to the other side of the page: he became a copywriter and joined the staff of what was then Italy's best-known copywriting school.
There he noticed the detail that changed his career: the great masters of selling in print pair their copy with a specific kind of design, built to get the piece read and answered. That discipline has a name, direct response design. In Italy, nobody was practicing it as a trade of its own.
designarispostadiretta.it: the discipline gets an Italian name
From that observation came designarispostadiretta.it, the first Italian project entirely dedicated to direct response design: articles, principles, annotated examples. Davide also devoted his degree thesis to Direct Response Design. With Filippini Studio, the work then moved from teaching to clients' real materials. What sets this trade apart from traditional graphic design: the difference explained point by point.
Three years inside a 400-campaign machine
From 2021 to 2024, Davide led the design department of one of Italy's largest direct marketing companies. The scope covered the whole trade: magalogs, sales letters, direct mail, landing pages, emails, ads. The pace reached up to five pieces a day, across print and digital.
What "first" means, stated without inflating it
Designers who laid out direct response materials already existed, inside the companies of that industry. The claim concerns the discipline.
Anyone who wants to verify it can start there, from the documented track record and the published work in the portfolio.
The herald: why it's called Keryx Design today
After his years inside the direct marketing industry, Davide founded Keryx Design. Keryx is Greek for herald: the one who carries a message and answers for it. The mission is precise: materials with an authoritative tone that build trust with the reader and bring measurable responses. He works with a limited roster, a few projects at a time, followed personally from brief to delivery.
